Meet the MedWAR Northwest 2024 Race Organizers

composed entirely of medical student leadership from the Pacific Northwest.

Nina Stash, MS3

Race Director

Nina is a third year medical student at the University of Washington. She has been involved in Pacific Northwest Wilderness Medicine for the past several years and this is her 3rd Medwar she has helped plan. She loves backpacking, skiing and windsurfing. Her interest in wilderness medicine started with getting stuck on an island in a hurricane with her grandparents when she was a child. In her free time, you can find her camping with her cats or jumping in lakes.

Angeline Fry, MS2

Co-Director

Angeline is a second year medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Prior to medical school she worked at Seattle Bouldering Project and spent as much time in the outdoors with her family as she could. Her interest in wilderness medicine blossomed from her love of the PNW and her work as a volunteer EMT. She is particularly interested in pursuing Emergency Medicine or Cardiology. In her free time you can find her adventuring with her dog Cosmo, rock climbing, or swimming!

Cory Thompson, OMS3

Fundraising Lead

Cory is a third-year osteopathic medical student at Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon, Oregon. He hopes to pursue gastroenterology, but has been also considering emergency medicine. When not actively studying, he is typically working on home improvement projects, or working on his truck. As a seventh generation Oregonian, he grew up exploring a lot of the greater Oregon forests and wildernesses, which is the inspiration of his desire to be outside. In the wilderness, Cory is passionate about exploring various peaks around the PNW that have historic fire lookouts, and camping with his wife and three dogs. Also, his favorite season is Winter, as long as there is snow!

Randi Perry, MS2

Volunteer Coordinator

Randi is a 2nd year medical student at University of Washington School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, they solo traveled 2 continents and 7 countries exploring ancient temples in Cambodia, looming churches in Spain , and meeting a manta ray face-to-face off the coast of Indonesia. Their interest in wilderness medicine started with their training to become an EMT, where
they learned the role healthcare providers can play in keeping people safe in the wilderness. They are interested in Emergency Medicine, especially natural disaster response and water born disease prevention. In their free time, you can find them hiking, running, diving, reading, and day dreaming.

Alyse Oxenford, OMS3

Alyse is a third year medical student at Western University of Health Sciences. She serves as the president of PNWM. Her interest in wilderness medicine began in college when she earned her W-EMT certification, but her love of the wilderness started long before that. She grew up in the mountains of Colorado hiking and canoeing on all the whitewater she could find. She plans to pursue a career in wilderness and emergency medicine. In her free time you can find her hiking with her dogs or paddling Washington's rivers

Shelley Zinghang, MS2
